Chow Chi Ming:Positively Face Up to the Adversity and Never Give Up

My name is Chi Ming. I was in charge of heavy machinery management in the container terminal with a promising future. However, one day when I drove back home, a severe traffic accident happened because I was tired and fatigued. Then, I was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for emergency treatment and I was fainted for 28 days. After I came to life, I found myself unable to control my limbs and even my breath. Lying in the bed, my life was sustained by the breathing machine all day long. In those painful days, the only way to face my future was to never give up. In order to get rid of the breathing machine, I begged the doctor to allow me breathing by myself. Through my hard-working practice for one year, I finally succeeded in breathing and speaking all by myself. Although I lay in the bed, I would make use of my remaining head movements to learn controlling the computer. Besides, I would also spend several hours practicing typing, typesetting and painting.

In order to achieve the goal of walking out of the ward by myself, I must find my new feet. Based on my general knowledge in machinery, I successfully configured and installed an electric-powered wheelchair controlled by the lower jaw with the help of books and the therapist, and found back a little freedom. Afterwards, I met some friends from Direction Association for the Handicapped, and joined in the association in 1997, turning a new page for my life.

In 2001, I participated in the planning and promotion of Life Education in the form of lectures and games. Since I have participated in such work for over a decade, it has become an important part in my life. My work is not only recognized by people from all walks of life, but also benefit myself a lot. As a matter of fact, it is also my honor to have the opportunity to share my lessons, stories and life experience with students and others, and encourage them to face the future and create a wonderful life. Thank you all.
