Law Wai Tong:Irrevocable Reality and Promising Future

I am Law Wai Tong. I can still recall that, at sunset on May 21, 1986, an industrial accident happened and my C5-C6 cervical spines were severely injured, and the doctor told me that I would spend the rest of my life in the wheelchair. At that moment, it was like a bolt from the blue, and I felt dispirited……

Fortunately, with the selfless support, encouragement and love from my family, my courage came back to me again, and I started to learn and adapt myself to the new life in the wheelchair. Meanwhile, I also accepted the hospital’s physical therapy, including lifting the sandbag, throwing stones, turning the screw and sit-ups. Although all these were simple for ordinary people, they could indeed relieve my family from worrying me.

After I was discharged in 1990, I stayed at home for   more than three months……One day, it happened that I could participate in a journey to Japan organized by an organization, and this journey also marked the beginning of my wonderful and rich life. Later on, I visited Taiwan, Thailand, America, Vietnam, Guangzhou and Shanghai. Due to the accident, my driving license was cancelled. Through hard-working practice, I finally passed the driving testing and obtained my license again.

When I had my own car in 1992, I began to drive as a volunteer and frequently visit other patients in hospital. One day, my friends told me that, although both hands of the participant were weak, he could still tie the table tennis bats and continue to play table tennis. After hearing this story, I wanted to have a try. After hard-working practice for many years, I finally seized an opportunity to attend the Asia Games on behalf of Hong Kong Table Tennis Team. On June 24, 2017, I won the Hong Kong Annual Table Tennis Championships for the Disabled.
