My name is Elaine, and I am an inborn spinal muscular atrophy patient. SMA is an incurable disease, and may even result in premature death. Although my intelligence is normal, my physical abilities are not as good as ordinary people. Since I cannot run, take care of myself, and play with other kids in the park, thus I can only live in my own world.
In my childhood, I was happy. As I grew up, my body gradually degenerates, and I can do a few things all by myself only. Previously, I could hold up the water cup, but now I need help from others. The best I can do is to move my fingers to click the mouse. As I encounter more and more impossible things in my life, my mood will always be down and frustrated, and it is really difficult for me to face the different life.
I can still recall that, when I was ten years old, I was attacked by the acute pneumonia. At that moment, I knew I would leave the world any time, and I felt very scared because many things were waiting for me to finish, and I kept telling myself that I had to get through this. Fortunately, I survived, and I was not as weak as I imagined. In addition, I started to re-discover myself.
My wishes are to study, learn and create, and I want to further understand this world. Therefore, I have completed my university courses and graduated. Now, I live with a foreign care taker. In these years, although I have encountered many difficulties and adversities, I still keep telling myself that I have many goals to achieve and then continue to find the path of my life. Sometimes, I will also do some voluntary work and part-time jobs. Although my physical conditions are limited, my mental world is unlimited. I will try every capable and meaningful thing.
