Yuen Lei Chuen:Touch the Soul

Now, I can still recall my messy life before the accident happens……

When I was 12 and 13 years old, I had dropped out, smoked and drunk excessively; when I was 18 and 19 years old, I was a frequenter in Police Station; when I was 21 and 22 years old, I was involved in robbery and knife wounding, and my whole life lost control completely. Due to an accident happened in 2003, my life changed.

One day, I fell down from a very high place, and I was in hospital when I woke up. Then, my limbs could not move at all, and I could not speak, eat and look. The nurse said: “Your cervical spines were broken, and you will lie in the bed for the rest of your life.” I could not help crying then, and thought that I might as well die. At that moment, there were two things important for me. Firstly, I was eager to meet my family members, but they could not meet me due to SARS; Secondly, I wanted to terminate my life, but I was even not able to.

When I was totally helpless, the chaplain came to visit me and told me to pray. Why not had a try? Anyhow, I had already failed to control my life. One day when I met the doctor with my family, he said: “It’s a miracle for you to sit up again, and you will make no progress. You’d better arrange your settlement first and leave the hospital.” My mother was very angry, and cried to the doctor: “You do not even try to encourage us.”

When I left the hospital, I was then very anxious and worried because I would live in the home for the aged. Fortunately, the nursing staff was kind to me. The pastor told me: “Although your body is disabled, you can still help others.” Afterwards, I decide to participate in some voluntary works, and I even saw a brother playing the guitar. He also told me to learn to play the harmonica. We even performed in Kwai Tsing Theatre.

Now, I am devoted to contributing the society as a computer trainee and a member of the voluntary work team and the editing team. I hope that fellows could also contribute themselves to serve people.
