Steve So:Success only Favors Prepared Minds

July 28, 2005 is the last day when my feet can step on the ground.

In the Summer Vacation when I was 17 years old, I went to Singapore to visit my family members and friends. On that day, I fell into the swimming pool by accident. At that moment, I said “I am a dead man this time” in my mind and then went faint.

When I woke up, I found myself in hospital, and the nurse just told me that my collar bone was injured and I experienced a surgery. Then, I could not say a word because of the oxygen hose. When I felt better, I was transferred to a Hong Kong hospital by flight for further treatment.

After being discharge, my family members always encouraged me to go out and not to avoid the outside world. Therefore, I started to re- recognize the community.  My right fingers are very important to me now, and I can rely on them to go out alone, take the MTR and meet my friends……Although I am now sitting in the wheelchair, I do not need the help from others.

As I stayed at home without anything to do, I decided to continue study in secondary school. It was a happy thing for me, but it was not easy to get up early and sleep late. In order to make up all courses I missed, I tried my best to review. Later on, I need another surgery in hospital, which almost collapsed me.

Fortunately, I did not give up, and I faced up to all setbacks. After such surgery, I was discharged with a neck band which accompanied me for 3 months. When I took of the neck band, my shoulders were over-strained. Then, I returned school to attend the mock exam and then the cert. exam.

As a result, all my scores were qualified for a senior financial diploma study, and then I smoothly obtained the Bachelor of Business Administration with honors in Marketing and Activity Management. In the meantime, I would do different voluntary works after class and take active part in various activities held by the government for the youth to understand the society.
